Our Puppy Health Commitment.
Every Dachshund deserves a caring start and a family prepared for their needs. Learn about our proposed health coverage terms, important veterinary care steps, and how you can support your puppy’s long-term wellbeing.
Our Health Promise
Congenital Health Protection
Our proposed limited health warranty addresses qualifying serious congenital or hereditary conditions identified during the first 12 months, subject to the conditions of the written agreement.
Dachshund owners should understand breed-related health considerations, including:
- Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) and spinal wellbeing
- Certain inherited eye conditions
- Patellar and other orthopedic concerns
These are health topics to discuss with your veterinarian, not automatically covered diagnoses. Any covered conditions must be specified in the final written warranty.
Early Infectious Disease Protection
A proposed 14-day limited infectious disease provision may apply to qualifying illnesses diagnosed shortly after your puppy arrives, provided the required veterinary examinations and documentation are completed.
- Canine parvovirus
- Canine distemper
Coverage, diagnosis requirements, remedies, and exclusions must be defined in the signed health agreement.
Your Part in Their Care
-
Early Veterinary Checkup
Arrange a comprehensive examination with a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of receiving your puppy, or within the timeframe required by your signed agreement. Keep a copy of the examination report.
-
Vaccination & Prevention
Work with your veterinarian to complete age-appropriate vaccinations, parasite prevention, and recommended follow-up appointments.
-
Protect Their Back
Dachshunds have long backs and can be vulnerable to spinal problems such as IVDD. Support your puppy’s body when lifting, limit unnecessary jumping, and seek veterinary advice on safe exercise and home arrangements.
-
Maintain a Healthy Weight
Provide balanced puppy nutrition, regular activity appropriate for their age, and sensible portions. Keeping your Dachshund lean can help reduce unnecessary stress on the spine and joints.
